Adam Basanta
Across various media and techniques, he investigates technology as a meeting point of concurrent, overlapping systems; a nexus of cultural, computational, biological, and economic forces. He is particularly interested in the troubled intersections of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, and often seeks to confuse, balance, and synthesize these seemingly oppositional approaches. Adam gave an interesting lecture and I have looked through his work on his website. I am looking at his installation work and seeing how he uses materials to create his artistic pieces.
Arco is a sculpt that uses ancient architectural techniques to produce an arch made of recycled materials. He uses bottles, bricks, old electronics and biomass to produce this arch. It uses materials in sections to form the arch. The main purpose of this piece is to highlight contemporary consumption habits and show the permanence of them in the form of this arch. I think this piece relies heavily on its aesthetic appeal as its very interesting to look at. I like the idea of using recycled materials as the focus of this piece.
