Leslie Deere
This lesson we had visiting practitioner, Leslie Deere, discuss their work in regards to VR sound. This was an interesting presentation where Leslie talked about her projects and influences, They have worked in many areas of sound including installations, performance and VR. One piece which immediately interested me was ‘Array Infinite’ which is a VR gestural audio visual performance. This piece was a VR experience which consisted of a moving dreamscape that used colour, sound and movement to immerse the audience in the experience. The audience is made to participate in a group experience which is led by the performer moving through the dreamscape, this creates a meditative experience for the audience.
The sound of the piece is made up of orchestral and electronic textures that blend in and out of each other. This is done to create a soothing sound almost representing nature in my opinion. These sounds change depending on where the audience is, different dreamscapes have different sound pallets.
Leslie is pushing what VR experiences can do for people in terms of appreciating 3D spaces visually and audibly. creating both pieces of art and functional experiences which emotionally effect the audience.
