Film Scene Choice : Solaris
Film Scene Choice : Solaris
After looking a few film scenes I think I decided on the opening scene for the 1972 sci-fi film “Solaris” directed by Andre Tarkosky. This scene works well as there is no dialogue but also a lot of different aspects to work with. There’s a decent amount of foley but lots of room to create interesting sound design and music.
Solaris is a Scfi film revolving around the main character “Kris” who is a physiologist who travels to a space station to investigate the death of a doctor. However kris is haunted by his past memories which are resurfaced while orbiting Solaris, a planet that causes emotional revelation to those near it. The aim of this film was to bring an emotional depth to the genre of science fiction as there is usually little focus on this.
The scene I have chosen is a 3 minute and 54 second scene which opens the film. It depicts Kris walking around his childhood home as an adult, this is done due to kris reflection on his past. this scene is very atmosphere heavy with images depicting the countryside, running water and nature. There are also moments of foley including footsteps, horse hooves and hand washing.
