Idea and Concept Development.
Idea and Concept.
Ive decided on producing a live performance that uses the architecture of a sonic space as an instrument which will also have some musical context. The space I have chosen is an Old church which sits across the road from where. I live. This space has excellent acoustics with a natural reverb due to its size and the stone walls its made from. I will preform in this space utilising the materials its made from and the objects inside it which will reverberate thought the space and be recorded.
The church
The church has a large naive with a high ceiling. I want to place speakers at the head of the church where sound travels the best. This is because church acoustics are made to have one person being able to speak at the front which allows the audience to hear what’s being said with ease. At the other end of the church I will place a microphone which captures the reverb and ambience created by the speakers playing out into the space.

Performance
Multiple contact microphones will be placed around the space, they will be put on benches, the walls and floor to capture sounds. I will use a number of techniques to create these sounds which will then all feed into an audio interface and into Ableton 11 on my computer. I will add some effects and looping to create textures and hopefully an engaging piece of listening. This will then feed out into my monitors which will play from one end of the church to the other capturing the ambience and reverb of the space. I also want to introduce some musical element such as a reimagining of a church hymn or something similar, this would be playing through my hardware and software synths. I want to record and film this performance to show how the piece is made and improve upon my own live performance skills.
