Sound Walk 11th November

Sound Walk Lesson:

Our group went on a ‘Sound Walk’ as part of our Sonic Doing and Thinking unit. We partnered up in pairs with one person being blind folded and the other leading them with a metal pole. The point of this exercise is to get the blindfolded person to listen and not deal with the distraction of seeing. This allowed a more in-depth experience from just listening to the sound around you and only focusing on that.

Overall I really enjoyed this lesson. The feeling was very unnerving at first with not being able to see or know where you are, however this subsided when I trusted my partner and listened more to the sound around me. I began to appreciate how many layers of noise there were around me ranging from traffic, birds, chatting, wind and vibrations from passing lorries.

We walked mostly around a park and went into some woods. It became more difficult to listen when were tackled rougher terrain in the woods however this was only a small section of the walk.
